Miami, FL (October 20, 2015) – Palmer Trinity School (PTS) is pleased to announce that its Director of Environmental Stewardship and science teacher, Leopoldo Llinas, was named first-place winner of the Spirit of Service Learning Award in the K-12 Private High School category. His selection was made by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida, the Armando Alejandre Jr. Memorial Foundation, and the Miami-Dade Teacher of the Year Coalition. The Spirit of Service Learning Award recognizes educators who integrate service into their curriculums, and are committed to connecting with students through service to help meet critical needs in South Florida and the global community.
Llinas was presented with the award on October 2 at the New World Center, Home of The New World Symphony Performance Hall and Rooftop Garden.
“We are overjoyed for Leo as he exemplifies what the role of an educator is for our world today. He plays an instrumental role in the lives of our student body by inculcating the value of personal responsibility toward the community and embodying our School’s motto, ‘Virtus, Huminatas et Spiritus’ – the power of virtue, humanity, and spirit,” expressed Patrick Roberts, Head of School.
In addition to his responsibilities as PTS Director of Environmental Stewardship, Llinas is the School’s Program Director for Agents of Change, offered as a full-year academic course entitled Social Entrepreneurship. The course empowers students with the necessary skills and experiences to design, launch, and run their own ventures for social change.
